Dog walking & Chatsworth House

We know that the grounds of Chatsworth House are fantastically popular for dog walkers.
This afternoon we had a very enjoyable time at the headquarters of one of the stallholders at our forthcoming Food Fair in Baslow (nr Chatsworth) on the 7th & 8th May.

Phil Betts is the man behind the new Hardwick Country Store located just off junction 31 of the M1. Phil is passionate about dogs and his new business has been set up to provide dog owners with some of the best dog food and accessories at discount prices.

Phil will be coming to our next food fair. So why not come along with your canine buddy? Take a walk in the glorious grounds of Chatsworth House and then come and try some of the tasty treats at our food fair and at the same time treat your dog to some of the best quality dog food available. Do they deserve anything less?

The number of artisan food producers and retailers keeps on mushrooming at our Food Fair taking place on 7th and 8th May in the picturesque Peak District village of Baslow next to Chatsworth House. We now have over 25 during the two days.

One of the latest editions is Autumn Harvest who are coming along on Sunday 8th May with their array of wild and dried mushrooms.

For anyone who loves using mushrooms in their cooking as I do it would be worth popping along to our second food fair to pick up a punnet or two of their delicacies.

Chatsworth Food Fair

This weekend was supposed to be a relaxing one after our first ever food fair in Baslow (nr Chatsworth).  But you know what it's like!  We wanted to get to Chatsworth's Food Fair to have a look round and have a chat to a few possible stall holders for our next food fair taking place on the 7th & 8th of May.

What should have been a gentle saunter up to Chatsworth House along the River Derwent became a full blooded sprint across the grounds in order for us to reach the Food Fair before it closed at 5.  To be honest we were a little disappointed.  There were a lot of hot food outlets doing pies and gourmet burgers but no food producers from the Peak District.  Instead there were a lot of journey men food producers who do the round of food markets throughout the UK.  That's not to say that some weren't very good but it would have been nice to see a few more local faces!

Anyway, today is a day to celebrate.  We are just off to sign the lease on our cookery school.  A fantastic spot on the first floor of a converted saw mill in Bakewell overlooking the River Wye.

Food & Art at our Baslow Food Fair nr Chatsworth

Where does food meet art?

Well some would argue that cake decoration is an art form and looking at Kirstie Dobsons fantastic creations at Hartingtons Spring Food Fair last week who could argue with that.

Crowds of people were gathering round her stall of beautifully decorated cakes including a full size Radley handbag.  I thought somebody had left it on her stall by mistake it was that real!

I understand that Kirstie is open to commissions so if you are looking for a one off cake for that special occassion that stands out from the crowd why not get in touch with Kirstie on 07733 070279 or e-mail her at pkdobson@sky.com.

Baslow Food fair - wow - what a great weekend!

We have just got back from our first ever food fair in Baslow nr Chatsworth.

Wow - what a great weekend!

The flood of people didn't stop..........Throngs of walkers who had been exploring the surround countryside, day trippers taking a stroll in Chatsworth Park and foodies making the trip having read about the event in the Sheffield Telegraph and the Derbyshire Times.

There was so much interest from the public in our artisan food producers............

Pete from Real Honey Apairies sold out on the first day of his Heather Honey (36 jars in one day).  He ended up having to go back and bottle more early Sunday morning just to keep up with demand!

Not surprising when we saw the hoardes of people with their brown bags leaving the venue.  There are certainly going to be a lot of people eating very well this week!

All we can say is thank you to the people that made the effort to visit our first food fair and all those great stallholders that made it such a special event.

We look forward to meeting you at our next food fair on the 7 and 8th of May.
