Carsington Water Autumn Food Fair & Chocolate Extravaganza

There's a nip in the air. It's the perfect time for chocolate & chocolate tasting.  Carsington Water's food fair returns on Sunday the 19th October with an array of artisan food producers and our own unique chocolate trail.  Follow the chocolate trail around the food fair to find out what fantastic and unusual things that can be produced with the help of the wonderful coccoa bean.  At the end of our chocolate trail enter our free prize draw to win a fabulous chocolate hamper provided by artisan chocolatier Naughty & Nice from Bakewell.  

Entry to the Carsington Water Food Fair is free and doors will be open from 10am until 4pm but get their early to make sure you get the biggest choice and before the producers sell out.  Supplies are strictly limited.  Our artisan food producers will include:

"Will have some patterned chocolate boxes and chocolate shoes for unique gifts; Scottie dog lollies; freshly-made Amaretto truffles; freshly made Champagne truffles; dark chocolate chilli leaves; single origin 75% Tanzanian chocolate mini slabs; and lots of other chocolate treats including chocolate mice (as pictured).  More items being made tomorrow!"

Carsington Water Food & Drink Fair - 29th June

Carsington Water the famous Derbyshire visitor attraction hosts the very popular Food and Drink Fair on the 29th June.  This 'Summer Extravaganza' promises to be double the size of recent food & drink fairs and exhibitors will include some of the premier food & drink producers from the region. 

This Derbyshire food fair is rapidly becoming one of the highlights of the Derbyshire foodie scene.

Great news for cheese lovers!

The lovely, lovely Joyce is coming from Franjoy Dairies bringing her range of artisan cheeses and butter to our food fair.

Regulars to Bakewell Farmers Market will know Joyce but if you can't wait to see her you can now buy her range of cheeses on Sunday 8th May at our next Food Fair in Baslow nr Chatsworth.

I've tasted them and they are bloomin' lovely. So smooth ......like being carressed with a velvet glove.

Bakewell Farmers Market tales

One of the artisan food producers we bumped into the other week at Bakewell Farmers Market was Debbie from Staffordshire Savoury Eggs. Now Debbie has a very interesting take on a traditional snack food, the trusty Scotch Egg.

She's been producing her range of bite sized snacks for 5 years. Very kindly she gave me one of her Staffordshire Pepper Bites to take away and try and very delicious it was too. This modern version of the rustic snack was a red hot pepper with cream cheese centre encased in pork sausage meat and finished with wholemeal bread coating.

Now you may think that the Scotch Egg was a bit of a peasants snack enjoyed by farm workers and the like. Not so. It actually has almost regal lineage. The scotch egg was invented in 1738 by Fortnum and Mason as a nibble for coach travellers who stopped off at the Piccadilly food emporium.

I'm hoping that Debbie will be coming along to one of our 9 food fairs taking place at Baslow nr Chatsworth this year.

Chatsworth House Sunday Walk

We had a lovely walk from Baslow Village to Chatsworth House on Sunday afternoon. Something we have done many times before but we never tire of. We park often for free near Baslow Village Hall and join the throngs of dog walkers who stream along the banks of the River Derwent towards the majestic presence of Chatsworth House. We stopped for a restorative coffee in the Chatsworth House stable block before setting off on a return journey. The round trip takes no more than an hour and a quarter and to be honest it's a great free afternoon out.

The fantastic thing for us was just how busy the car park was next to Baslow Village Hall. The parade of day trippers, tourists and locals just confirm our belief that it is a great spot for our food fairs. Have a look at the photos of the village hall and car park to show just how popular it is.
With less than a month to go before our Spring Food Fair at Baslow nr Chatsworth we are starting to get very excited indeed. I'm just hoping we get an afternoon like Sundays to grace our opening event. Just like Chatsworth we are than looking forward to being a regular fixture in the Peak District's calender of events.

Artisan coffee and pancakes

Coffee and pancakes is a mouthwatering combination I think you will agree.

You will be able to get both at our Spring Food Fair at Baslow (nr Chatsworth).

The artisan Brazilian aribica coffee is being made on the day by Azorieblue.  Ask Adrian for a free taster if you don't believe how good coffee can get.

His artisan coffee should be the perfect accompaniment to Double Dutch hot pancakes available both as sweet and savoury snacks.

Now if that doesn't leave a nice taste in your mouth...I don't know what will?

Pep up your bread making

Any foodies who enjoy baking their own bread know your bread is only as good as the flour that goes into it.

I made one of my best loaves earlier this week. It was, as always, made from a mixture of flour. This time it comprised of white flour, wholemeal, Allison seeded, sunflower seeds and possibly the secret ingredient some Rye Flour from Tuxford Mill.

The great news for those into baking their own bread is Tuxford Windmill has just agreed to come along to Hartingtons Spring Food Fair at Baslow Village Hall (nr Chatsworth). Come along on Sunday 3rd April to meet Paul from Tuxford Windmill and stock up with some freshly milled flour. Your bread will never taste so good!

Cookery School coming to Bakewell!

Hartingtons has had planning permission granted for their Cookery School in Bakewell in the heart of the Peak District and sitting conveniently on the doorstep of Chatsworth House.

Development on the cookery school will start in the Spring and our first cookery courses shortly afterwards.

Any suggestions for the first cookery courses?  We were thinking of kicking off with a bread making course.

Order your Christmas turkey

Anybody trying to decide where to order there Christmas turkey from should come along to Hartingtons Christmas Food Fair in Baslow nr Chatsworth on the 4th and 5th of December.

We have two of the Peak Districts finest turkey producers in attendance.

Roneys are the areas only local stockist of Delias favourite turkey the Norfolk Bronze.  Roneys are attending on the Sunday whilst you can get your Christmas turkey from Derbyshire Dales Organics on the Saturday.

As well a being able to pick up your turkey, you will be able to buy a great range of Christmas food and food gifts from the likes of: Peak Ales, Tindalls of Tideswell, the Welbeck Bakehouse, John Hattersley Wines.

It really is going to be a great couple of days and a great food event.

Peak district farmers market

Hartingtons food fair is more than just another Peak District farmer market it will be a complete food experience.

Not only will you be able to meet each of the food exhibitors and hear their fascinating back story on how they came to be in the artisan food business.  But also you will be able to taste the fantastic array of artisan food from in and around the Peak District on the 4th and 5th of December at Hartingtons first food fair.

Where else could you order your Christmas turkey, buy your Christmas pudding and wines in a seasonal one stop Christmas food shop.

Farmer markets in the Peak District offer some great local food produce but we will offer a total Christmas food experience so why not come along and enjoy?!

Food Fair - Peak District - (nr Chatsworth)

Preparations are well under way for the first Hartingtons food fair (nr Chatsworth) in the Peak District.

We have already signed up most of the stalls.

On the weekend of the 4th & 5th December you will be able taste the delights of artisan cheesecakes, mulled wine, chocolates, Christmas puddings, Christmas cakes, organic locally sourced vegetables, relishes, locally produced sausages, breads.

The stalls will cater for your food needs as well as providing an opportunity for you to buy unique Christmas presents for friends and family at the Hartingtons food fair in the Peak District.

Food fair nr Chatsworth, Baslow

Hartingtons can announce that Heavenly Cheesecakes will be one of the local food heroes attending our Christmas Food Fair taking place nr Chatsworth in the picturesque peak district village of Baslow.

Heavenly Cheesecakes was set up in 2009 by Alison Foster.  We can confirm that her cheesecakes are indeed heavenly.  Especially her blueberry cheesecake.

Why don't you treat yourself by coming along to our  Christmas Food Fair on the 4th & 5th December in Baslow nr Chatsworth to come and sample some of Alison's 'slices of heaven'.  Demand for her cheesecakes is so strong that she will only be attending on the 4th December. So make sure you get your orders in quick!

Food festivals - October

Any foodies wanting to indulge their love of food have a number of food festivals to look forward to in October.

Up coming in October is the second annual celebration of London's restaurant scene the London Restaurant Festival.  The event takes place from October 4-18 and is designed to celebrate the diverse restaurant scene in the capital with food events and special menus.

Those foodies that love watching a good chef in action should check out the Love Cooking Festival coming to a city near you.  The event includes top celebrity chefs such as Rick Stein & Gary Rhodes demonstrate some of those cooking skills that have made them household names.  These food events are taking country wide right up to Christmas.

This weekend has been very exciting.

Hartingtons have just signed up to put on over ten food fairs in Baslow Village Hall nr Chatsworth.

The first food fair is taking place just before Christmas over the weekend of the 4/5th December.

There will be 16 stalls exhibiting local food heroes. This food fair will definitely have a festive theme with artisan food to suit all tastes and budgets. Whether you are looking for some festive food treats or presents for foodie friends and family come along.

The great thing is that entry is FREE. Come along and join us for a real celebration of local food producers and retailers located within the magnificent Peak District.
